Complex delivery achieved safely

Westgreen Construction prioritise health and safety, ensuring compliance in all operations as shown in this recent steel delivery.

Westgreen invited HBE (steel contractor, fabricator and installer) into this Grade II listed residence, to walk each floor and collaboratively propose a strategy on how best to get the steels into the building. At Westgreen, health and safety is held in the highest regard. The location of steels on each floor were addressed, utilising a carefully considered logistical strategy.

It was agreed that a HIAB would be the best option from a health and safety perspective, allowing us to utilise the full width of the locality, which would have otherwise been inaccessible in the event of a road closure.

During the lifting process, there were two HBE operatives wearing harnesses, secured to the scaffold. The handrail was retractable, so that when the steel was lifted into position, it would slide to the side and the steel could be pulled into the building using the strops attached. Once successfully into the building, the steels were raised onto a portable lifting gantry using a 1 tonne block and tackle hoist. The steel could then be easily manoeuvred around the floorplate and into position, before intumescent painting and installation took place.
