The Gilbert and George Centre Receives RIBA London Awards Nomination

We are delighted that once again a Westgreen project has been nominated for the prestigious RIBA London Awards (2024).

Already a finalist in the AJ Architecture, Brick and Civic Trust Awards, The Gilbert & George Centre now joins two other Westgreen gallery projects and an innovative restaurant scheme in being shortlisted or awarded the accolade.

Located just off Brick Lane in Spitalfields, The Gilbert & George Centre was opened to the public in 2023 and involves the conversion of a 19th century former brewery into a new non-profit public art gallery and foundation for contemporary art. The project is entirely funded by Gilbert & George, with access free to all.

‘It required engineering gymnastics, and an astonishing 37 party wall agreements with adjoining neighbours… It is a welcome addition to London’s stock of hidden troves, of personal and domestically scaled chambers of world-famous art.’
--Rowan Moore, The Guardian
